What is Okonomi-yaki….?
Okonomi-yaki is a Japanese style savory pancake containing a variety of ingredients.
The name is derived from two Japanese words "Okonomi" which means “as you like” and Yaki which means “grilled” or “baked”.
Okonomi-yaki dough is made from a little bit of okonomiyaki flour, eggs and a lot of fine chopped cabbage in it, which is much healthier than western pancakes and pizza. There is also a selection of different fillings like in pizza or crapes, it could be meat, seafood, vegetables or any kind of ingredients just like the meaning of “Okonomi (as you like)”
Once cooked the outside of the okonomi-yaki is crispy and the inside is soft and fluffy. It is then topped with Okonomiyaki Sauce and toppings. "Okonomiyaki sauce" can be describe as "Sweet Teriyaki BBQ sauce”.
Okonomiyaki is recognized as a great balanced meal by Japanese and loved by all generations. It's also often described as one of the soul foods by Japanese.
It's already very popular in other Asian countries and has a growing popularity outside of Asia. You can find highly regarded Okonomi-yaki restaurants in Los Angeles, New York, London and Paris and now we are happy to finally bring the Okonomi-yaki to Stockholm.
